Where Are They Now? No Seriously.

While driving into work today I tuned into Pop 2K on Sirius XM where you can hear all of the hits from the early 2000’s. Most of the time they play Mariah Carey, Justin Timberlake, U2, Vertical Horizon, Matchbox Twenty and, well you get the hint; but then I caught myself singing along to Alien Ant Farms’ Smooth Criminal and wondered what ever happened to them? I went on to search for other bands who left the music scene and here are some of the artists who disappeared after 2012:

Nine Days- Absolutely (Story of a Girl) (2000)
                           Michelle Branch- Everywhere (2001)
Vanessa Carlton- A Thousand Miles (2002)
The Darkness- I Believe in a Thing Called Love (2003)
Ryan Cabrera- On The Way Down (2004)
                           Howie Day- Collide (2005)
                           Daniel Powter- Bad Day (2006)
                           Snow Patrol- Chasing Cars (2007)
                           Flobots- Handlebars (2008)
                           The Veronicas- Untouched (2009)
                           Orianthi- According to You (2010)

In the past we have had popular bands from the 90’s stop by including Smash Mouth, Sugar Ray, and Gin Blossoms. On March 7th Vertical Horizon and Tonic will be performing live at The Paramount, tickets are still available and can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the box office (open daily from 12 pm-6 pm). We hope these 10 missing artists will make their comeback at The Paramount and if there’s a band from the past you’d like to see #cometotheparamount let us know right here!

Come to The Paramount and Feel Alright

On May 23, Rusted Root and The Wailers will be co-headlining at The Paramount. Huntington will experience an intimate night with the music business’ most talented trailblazers; it will be a co-headlining experience Bob Marley himself would be proud of. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com, charge-by-phone @ 800-745-3000 or visit us at the box office (open daily from 12 noon - 6 pm).

Rusted Root transcends age, generations, cultures and musical style with eight albums under their belt and over three million records sold worldwide. Their latest album, The Movement, is an energized and poetic collection of originals. Backing vocalist and percussionist, Liz Berlin says, “When we first got together as a band there was a groundswell of community, love and support that has taken us on a movement through our lives and together as a band. This movement has never stopped all these years!” Now their movement will continue with The Wailers for a spectacular one night event.

Original members of The Wailers included the man hailed as “The Artist of the 20th Century,” Bob Marley, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, and Barrett Brothers, Carlton and Aston. Today Aston leads the band as it continues to promote peace, love and equality through music. They have had appearances at major festivals including Lollapalooza, Glastonbury and Rothbury, along with superstars such as Carlos Santana, Stevie Wonder, Sting, The Fugees and Alpha Blondy.  The Wailers have sold over a quarter of a billion albums, including seven top-ten entries on the British pop charts.

Both bands spread the same message spoken perfectly by Aston Barrett, “the oxygen of the people. It’s the message of roots, culture and reality, meant to spread peace and love.” Come to The Paramount to enjoy the sounds of reggae, rock fusion without the hassle of traveling into the city.

The Paramount Plays Tribute

On March 14, the timeless music of Peter Gabriel will be recreated through the Security Project and Progressive Magazine raves that it’s a “scary good time” after their premiere in New York City. The Security Project plays the greatest hits from Peter Gabriel’s first five solo albums including Security and Plays Live. Founding member Jerry Marotta said, “As we were creating Security we had no idea we were making something so unique…I’m proud that with Security Project we’re able to deliver the deepest of those songs, and do it with real conviction, playing them live.” In Fact, Marotta performs with such conviction that critics claim “if you close your eyes, you would think Peter Gabriel was on stage.” This intimate night with The Security Project is a must see for all ages across the board. Jerry Marotta, Trey Gunn, Brian Cummins, Fuzzbee Morse and David Jameson’s rendition of Peter Gabriel’s music will have the audience mesmerized.

Abba Mania is coming to Huntington on March 19th to remind us of a time when Abba ruled the airwaves. Abba Mania recreates the Abba phenomenon for fans all over the world to enjoy; performing classic hits including “Mamma Mia,” “Voulez Vous,” “Dancing Queen,” “Winner Takes It All,” “Super Trouper” and many more. Pollstar has ranked Abba Mania 66th in the World’s Top 100 touring shows while Sky News claims that they are “even better than the originals in the live arena.” Abba Mania has conquered other parts of the world, with concerts in Demark, Sweden, Russia, France, Luxembourg, The United States, and South America. Now Long Island will have a chance to hear Abba Mania live in concert without the hassle of traveling into the city.

The Paramount welcome back Get The Led Out on February 28; it will be their third time performing in Huntington after a huge turnouts in July of 2012 and 2013. Get The Led Out is a group of professional musicians who are passionate about their love of the music of Led Zeppelin. The Examiner says, “Get The Led Out is an experience in Rock and Roll. They are able to take the vivid, resonant sound of the legendary albums of Led Zeppelin and bring that comprehensive experience to the live stage… Get The Led Out is a spectacle for the ears. They will take you on a journey through the annals of Rock and Roll’s greatest band that you won’t ever forget. This is something you have to hear to understand.”

If you really want to experience Led Zeppelin but are unable to make the show this month; don’t fret because Jason Bonham, son of John Bonham original member of the Led Zeppelin band, will be performing on September 9th. As a small child, Jason Bonham entertained family friends ranging Jimmy Page to some of the guys from the group Bad Company. It was clear from a young age that Jason was destine for greatness, Rolling Stone Magazine said, “Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience Does the Band Proud.”

Man Crush Monday

Last year Matchbox Twenty performed a sold out event here at The Paramount and now lead vocalist and primary composer, Rob Thomas, will play another sold out event on May 5th. Rob’s distinctive voice and graceful aging has us naming him our man crush this Monday. We can’t wait for another intimate night with Rob Thomas as he performs all of his greatest hits along with his solo work.

Matchbox Twenty released their last studio album entitled North last year, but Rob still feels that his solo career is equally as important and should remain a priority. “The reason I do what I do is because I have all these songs that are always building up in my head, so it’s really cathartic to get a load of them out into the world and start over again. And the solo career is a really important way for me to do that.”

In 2004, the Songwriters Hall of Fame presented Thomas with its first ever “Starlight Award,” which was created to recognize a songwriter in the early years of his or her career. He has made a lasting impact on music and in the hearts of men and women all over the world. We look forward to having Rob Thomas back at The Paramount and he has given us another reason to celebrate Cinco de Mayo aka "Cinco de Rob".
