Standing on the Right Side of History

LIVE at The Paramount on July 25th
Indie-Pop sensations Tegan and Sara will perform and hold an onstage Q&A to benefit the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). The event will also include a special guest DJ performance immediately following the Q&A. All the proceeds from ticket sales will benefit HRC in the fight for LGBT equality.

As the largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans; the HRC represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.

The Voice’s Beverly McClellan, who will be performing at the Paramount July 27, is openly gay and refuses to be labeled. She has become a role model in the LGBT community and says, “I encourage them to not only look inside themselves, but look in the mirror and accept themselves for their reflection. There are a lot of labels out there. Stereotypes play a number on a person’s psyche and they can also do a lot of damage to society as a whole. We are all different in our bodies, emotions and limitations… I’d say to feel confident in the knowledge of who you are in the acceptance that not everyone is going to.

Last year, Leann Rimes and Eddie Cibrian posed together for the NOH8 Campaign, which raises awareness and funds for gay rights causes, including ending Proposition 8. This was the second time Rimes had posed for the campaign. Rimes said she advocates for gay rights because she believes in equality. She said, “It just breaks my heart seeing kids committing suicide because they’re not accepted. It kills me.” Rimes will be coming to the Paramount August 1 and will continue to support the LGBT community.

On Wednesday, June 26, the Supreme Court ruling won federal recognition for same-sex couples to marry in California. While this is a large milestone for the LGBT community there are still 30 states that prohibit same-sex marriages. Join Tegan and Sara and stand on the right side of history on July 25, tickets can be purchased through the HRC or at the box office.
